"I've always felt that being a Cougar prepares you for life.  You learn not to expect too much." - Don James, University of Washington Head Football coach, 1975-1992

News

2009-09-08 | "...bum bum bum, another one bites the dust...and another one gone, and another one gone, another one bites the dust..." It just doesn't stop; another Coug arrested then kicked off the team.  This time, Sophomore WR Kevin Norrell was arrested for a DUI over Labor Day, and coach Paul Wulff has axed yet another player of his.  The story can also be found here

2009-08-17Another Coug has left the program - QB J.T. Levenseller has told the WSU coaches that he intends to transfer.

2009-08-12 | WSU RB Chris Ivory is no longer with the team after he was dismissed from the team for "violating team rules".  The article can be found here.

2009-07-29 | The Orlando Sentinel did research to find out how all of the coaches in college football were paid.  Not surprisingly, Paul Wulff is the lowest paid of all of the coaches who are at BCS schools.  Overall, he is tied for 85th with Bob Toledo of Tulane, and Troy Calhoun of Air Force.  The entire list can be seen here.

2009-07-12 | Two more Cougs kicked off the team.  Devin Giles (DB) and Michael Willis (WR) were released from the team for "violation of team rules".  The story can also be seen here.

2009-07-01 | The WSU Cougs just became #1 in something!  Too bad for them it is the 'Fulmer Cup' -- the site that ranks schools based on their "lack of good behavior".  The current rankings can be seen here.

2009-06-30 | Here is a good article highlighting the Cougs' inability to stay out of trouble of late.  Surprisingly it is written by Jim Moore (Go 2 Guy) who is a diehard Coug, and as he admits, typically does not like to bash on his alma mater.  The article is here.

2009-06-22 | This is unbelievable -
three more Cougars in trouble!!  The three Boog footballs players have been charged with felonies for attempting to burglarize a teammate's dorm room.

"Former Junior cornerback Romeo Pellum, former red shirt freshman cornerback Kevin Frank, and current sophomore cornerback Tyrone Justin and have all been charged in Whitman County Superior Court.

Pellum faces the most counts for allegedly burglarizing the dorm room twice this last February. Justin and Frank reportedly took part in one of the burglarizes in which electronics were taken.

Justin and Pellum are scheduled to stand trial in August while Frank is scheduled to enter a plea on Friday.

University officials report that Pellum reportedly left the team earlier this spring due to team violations and Frank is no longer with the team."

2009-06-19 | Not to be outdone by the Wazz-who football team, WSU basketball player DeAngelo Casto has been arrested for a hit-and-run on the Wazzu campus back in April.  He apparently hit a parked car and drove off as he was driving without insurance.  In a related story, Paul Wulff is trying to get Casto to come out for the football team citing the fact that Casto actually hit something.

2009-06-19 | Wazzu is currently last in the Pac-10 and 133rd in the nation in the NACDA Directors' Cup, which ranks athletic departments based on overall on-field success during each school year.  Here are the Pac-10 standings (number before name is their national ranking):

 RANK  SCHOOL  POINTS
 1  Stanford  1,455.00
 3  USC  1,137.75
 6  California  1,072.00
 10  Washington    963.75
 14  Arizona State    918.75
 15  UCLA    909.25
 22  Oregon    757.25
 24  Arizona    738.50
 77  Oregon State    234.50
 133  Washington State    114.50

2009-06-18 | Here is a great article about Ryan Leaf's "career":
"If you haven't followed the sad tale of Leaf's post-Wazzu life, we can sum it up this way: He Couged it."

2009-06-18 | This is a great article from The Daily Evergreen (WSU student paper) that is a new 'Mad Libs' style format of a report for a WSU football player getting into trouble -- it can be seen here.

2009-06-17 | UPDATE -- Former Boog QB Ryan Leaf was arrested Wednesday after turning himself in at the U.S. - Canada border.  Whatcom County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Joe Bates says Leaf had been living in British Columbia.

2009-06-16 | UPDATE -- Prosecutors in Texas have set a Thursday morning deadline for former WSU Coug QB Ryan Leaf to turn himself in on drug-related charges.  "If he doesn't show up by Thursday, we will be sending inquiries to every law enforcement agency that we can think of that might come into contact with him to make sure they're aware that there are warrants out for his arrest." - James Farren, Randall County D.A.

2009-06-11 | Two more arrests!!!  Well done Cougs, well done.

"Two Washington State freshman football players, safeties Tyree Toomer and LeAndre Daniels, have been suspended from team activities following their arrest by WSU campus police in connection with the alleged theft of bicycles."

They were arrested on suspicion of several counts of theft and burglary, but charges hadn't been filed as of Thursday afternoon.

WSU police lieutenant Steve Hansen said witnesses saw the two take a hacksaw from a house under remodel. The arrest came, Hanson said, after Toomer and Daniels allegedly used the hacksaw to take four bicycles from a storage area.

Both Toomer and Daniels were part of coach Paul Wulff's first recruiting class.

The best part is this quote from February 23, 2009 by head coach Paul Wulff (talking about off-field incidents involving his players):
"I guarantee that will be held to a minimum as we move forward. The players understand that. I guarantee it."

2009-06-11UPDATE -- A warrant was issued for Ryan Leaf's arrest in Randall County, Texas after he failed to turn himself in on drug and burglary charges.

"At one point he said he was going to turn himself in. He hasn't turned himself in yet, and if he gets picked up he's going to be arrested," county prosecutor Lacy Miller said, according to reports. "If he gets picked up out of our jurisdiction, then we will extradite him or use whatever means we have to get him back. Right now he is a wanted individual."

2009-06-03
| Wazzu Senior, safety Xavier Hicks was arrested again - this time for speeding, which then led to the discovery he was driving with a suspended license.  This is arrest #5 for Hicks.  He has been arrested on theft twice ('05 & '07), assault ('08), suspended license ('08), and now this repeat offense.  The judge declared he was going to send Hicks to jail, but decided that living in Pullman was enough punishment.
